Empowering the community one stitch at a time

Guidance of Christ Ambassadors is a non-profit organisation that alleviates the high rate of joblessness by providing the community members of Phillipstown with the skills and tools to become independent and self-sustainable. Pastor Dumani and his wife, Nombulelo run a local church in Phillipstown that many community members attend. They are familiar with the challenges people face.

By providing sewing classes, it not only empowers them to be skilled in a specialised field but also creates the possibility of them becoming self-sustainable by selling their handiwork locally and in the surrounding areas. The programme focuses on developing practical skills and also builds job readiness.

The Sibona Ilanga Trust supported Guidance of Christ Ambassadors with a grant of R200,000 to implement the programme.

“We need to ensure that our young people are disciplined and that they approach this programme with a positive mindset and attitude. Not only will this help get them off the streets but families will benefit through the income they will receive. We would like to thank the Sibona Ilanga Trust for its support to enable us to plough back into our community.” Pastor Dumani Tokani, Guidance of Christ Ambassadors.
